Advice from Other Teams

December 17th, 2008

I’m going to start a new category of posts here with the inventive title “Advice from Other Teams.” I’ve noticed that many other LeMons teams have websites/blogs on the intertubes; many of them have some instructive things to say. I haven’t collected many of them so far, but this entry can be a starting point for their collection; please feel free to add more other team websites in the comments. More after the break:

These guys have run MKI MR2’s in LeMons before. I think that they are on their second or third car by now, and they have some very good things to say about the MR2 as a LeMons ride. As I read through their observations, I was glad that we decided to stick with this ride.

This is a fairly good gallery of the work that one team did on a MKI MR2 for LeMons South last year. The website itself doesn’t have a lot to say, but the photos are instructive.

These guys are running a MKI MR2 at Arse-Freeze here at the end of the month. Might be a good idea to keep an eye on their progress as the race approaches, since they are also using their blog as kind of a team bulletin board. Take a look at their race car; I kind of like the Mad Max bumper job they put on the front end. I don’t like that it’s just uncovered tube, but I do like the additional protection it adds to the front of the car. Our front bumper is effed, so we’ll probably want to do something like this. But I’d like to fair it in with some sheet aluminum maybe for better aero. Is that ridiculous on this car? Probably.

I like the Mad Max Radiator Protector. More Aluminum = more weight. Also like how some teams take out the wheel wells and really protect the corners of the car. We, of course, would need that protection from other (jealous) teams taking shots at us–not because we’d ever nudge our way in to a tight spot.

The logistics could *definitely* be a headache at the end. Need to think about those things early. I think that’s my job.
