Sticker Shock

January 21st, 2009

Success!

One of my jobs was to find a sponsor for those stickers so our car will look like a TARP NASCAR. Today, Steve Brom of Doozywraps agreed to help us out. (Hat tip to Pat for pointing me in Doozywraps’ direction from the get-go.)

Specifically, I asked for two types of stickers:

1) Ones of logos of bailout companies–namely, Citigroup, Bank of America, AIG, JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, General Motors, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, PNC Financial Services Group, U.S. Bancorp, GMAC Financial Services, Chrysler, Capital One Financial, American Express, and Bank of New York Mellon Corp.

2) Ones of the car’s number. In this case, that could be $700 Billion or $700,000,000,000. That, I think, adds up to $700 billion. Those stickers would go on the doors and the roof.

We should be able to get these by mid-February.

Awesome! We will cover the car in financial institution stickers. Superb work, sir! I have already pulled down the artwork on a bunch of those companies, I’ll email that to you from home later this evening as I don’t have it with me. Should make for less work for our sponsor.

Not to split hairs, but I was thinking we’d want, above all, companies that went under–the true Lemons of the financial services industries. Many of those companies above are, relatively speaking, in good health–and all are still in business. But remember, some didn’t even last that long!
So let’s not forget (I’m reading off the fin-services death-watch list I have at my desk…seriously): Merrill Lynch, Lehman Bros, Bear Stearns, Countrywide, Washingon Mutual, Wachovia, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, National City Bank, IndyMac Bank, and our international sponsor Fortis.

And finally, considering I’m writing this from a computer that’s owned by AIG…let’s take them off the list. :) We’re good people, I promise–about 50 dickheads screwed it up for everyone else.

Pat has your back, Matt. He already mentioned taking AIG off of the list. No problem.

All of the companies I mentioned, though, came from a list of beneficiaries of TARP funds. That seems right, given our theme. Did any of the new ones you mentioned (e.g., Fannie Mae, Fortis, etc.) get TARP funds?

I like both ideas. No reason to leave anybody out — let’s get in the guys who went belly-up and necessitated TARP and then also the guys who have been the recipients of our taxpayer largesse! No reason to let anybody slide by on this. With so much of Wall Street and the MainStreamMedia giving them all a pass, we can be the one small, ragtag operation that will call all the big boys to account through our parody!

In other words, we will — wait for it –

…speak truth to power. Kapow! Take that John Kerry!

I’d like to get back to Steve about the stickers, so let me see if I’ve got this right:

    1) Number stickers. Three total: the roof and the doors. Update: The Art department decrees that the light green should show up just fine.

    2) Corporate logos. A variety (see above) that we can stick all over the car.

    Is that right?

Now, I’ve got three questions for Pat:

    1) Did you say you had camera-ready art for some of the logos? If so, can you shoot that to me to get to Steve?

    2) Did you say something about a sticker logo for the camera sponsor? (By the way, I find this a little strange. Why would you want your logo on a car covered with logos of failed companies? I guess any publicity is good publicity.)

    3) Did you say something about a team logo?

    @Brad

    1. Number Stickers. I think we really only need 2, one for each of the doors. The one I sent you yesterday is almost camera-ready. I’ll fix the border thing tonight and will email to you tomorrow.

    2. Corp. logos. Yes, I think that’s correct. I’ll put together the ones that I have pulled down, zip them into one tidy folder, and will email them to you. Although they’re all either .eps or .ai files, they’re not exactly camera-ready. If you can give me specs on what size these stickers will be, I could get them all camera-ready. Alternatively, they can do that with their staff if they’re wanting to do that. Whichever they want is fine with me. Just let me know the specs if they want us to provide camera-ready art.

    3. Camera sponsor: they are sending the stickers with their product, so we don’t need those printed.

    4. Team logo: I emailed that to you earlier today. The blue and white logo. Might have arrived after your comment?

Steve Brom at DoozyWraps just told me that we’ll get our stickers by Feb. 16th.
