Oh the Humanity!
So here are some photos of the carnage that is the dead smallport motor. Based on these photos and some gripping narrative from yours truly, Senor Lamm agreed to give us a $75 residual value for the next race. So at least we can go out and get a motor for the car now. Enjoy the photos, most of them are clickable for larger size views:
That’s Stevo standing in the engine bay after they’d dropped the smallport motor out of the car on Saturday afternoon. Dad and I were well on the way to Fort Worth at this point. More after the jump:
That’s Bryan Carlson, who loaned us the bigport motor that we swapped in to finish the race. He’s holding the busted #3 piston from the smallport. Observe how much material is missing there; it scattered itself throughout the motor. Pretty much everything it touched is scored to hell now.
This was the scene along the side of the trailer, the carnage that remained after the removal and trackside autopsy of the smallport motor. I’m going to try to reuse the exhaust system on the new motor, and some of the parts of the old motor are re-usable (alternator, water pump) but for the most part, it’s just trophy-making material now.
Left to right, that’s Dave, Stevo, my Dad, and Nix working on getting the car ready to lift over the “new” bigport motor. I think.
Oh, and here’s a shot of the car actually on the track. I think that’s Stevo in the driver’s seat, he was the only one with a red driving suit:
And here’s a nice photo of the car at rest on Saturday, before she DBU’d (”done blowed up.”):
